Letters to the void.

News

I just finish another batch of audio clips for the Channel 17 radio station. I may post some of them, and recreate my "As Seen on TV" page when I have more time. Also, I have a new cYberYaniv logo that Dennis of Cletus Productions created for me. I'm going eventually create a new home page for cYberYaniv, and I'll incorporate the new logo.

I'm working on a website for a band called Columbian Necktie. They're a speed metal band that has been playing at my open mic nights. They're very good at what they do, and they're very rehearsed. They're the kind of band you either love or hate. Hopefully, I'll get that webpage up soon.

I have a busy week. I'm heading down to Denver tonight. Then tomorrow, I'm helping run sound for 4th Annual Blues from the Top festival at Solvista. On Sunday, I'm playing music at a private party in Steamboat. On Monday I have a break. Then I have a gig every day until July 10, which is 7 in a row. It's going to be a challenging run.

Inter-o-net-o-matic

Blamo!

I'm back, and I'm worldwide, baby!

I just got my internet up at my new place. Comcast is hooking me up with a cool 4099 kbps of download speed and a saucy 355 kbps of upload speed. By the way, to check the speed of your connection at home, go to www.speakeasy.net and click the speed test in the bottom right corner.

Look here in the future for a lot more fodder straight from me to the void. The future is now! ... well maybe not exactly now... er... I guess the future actually comes a little bit past now... wait... Past now!? The future is past now, while the past is passed by both the now and the future. Now in the future, the now will continue to pass the past but will never get past the future. Break it down, smart guy.

Godspeed.

Zing!

Pat

A guy I knew named Pat passed away last week. He wasn't so much my friend as a friend of a friend, but I went fishing with him two weeks ago.

I met him and three other people on Lake Granby a few Mondays ago. He brought his 8 month old son with him. The six of us went out on the lake all morning. He had to leave the group early in order to take care of his son, so he didn't stay with us for the afternoon.

I saw Pat again the following Thursday at the open mic that I run at the Crooked Creek. I was going to go up and say hello to him, since I'd just gone fishing with him a few days before. I got distracted with music and other things and never got a chance to say hello to him. I'll never have another chance to say hello to him.

On the day we went fishing, I remember that we had a strange conversation about death before we got on the boat. Somehow we started talking about how the brain can still function without the body. I remember that Pat said something about how if you drown in freezing cold waters, the cold water will preserve your brain function for 15 minutes, so you'll be conscious of what's happening. Then, I think I said something morbid about a guillotine and being able to see your decapitated body for a few seconds. Then my friend John started talking about what happens the instant before someone dies. He said that he thought of consciousness as a little ball of light that bounces around your head. He said that right before you die, that ball of light bounces around your brain really quickly for what feels to you like eternity, and that was the afterlife. It was a random conversation, and I probably never would have thought about it again if Pat hadn't died last week.

Pat grew up in Wisconsin. He worked at Silver Creek in their computer and IT department. He had a wife and an 8-month old son. The day before he died, he left his softball team's game early because he didn't feel well. He died at home in the morning from a heart attack. He was 34.

Dolphins

I've been pretty busy lately, moving in to a new place and starting a new job. I still don't have an internet connection at my new apartment, but it should be set up by later in the week. I writing this blog from my folk's house in Denver.

My friend Chris Fields told me that he noticed I had only written two blogs since I got back from Israel. I should write more of these. On the other hand, maybe I should just send Chris Fields more e-mails.

Yesterday was my brother's 30th birthday. It was also Father's Day, and it was also Paul McCartney's 64th birthday. Coincidence? It was also a Sunday which happens to be the first day of the week... which is kind of like the week's birthday if you think about it with you eyes all squinty so everything gets kind of blurry and stuff, kind of like one of those magic eye things where you see this dolphin jumping out of a jungle-scape if you get it just right. Um.

Anyway, I pledge to you, Chis, that I will write more of these. It is my solemn goal to waste as much of your time as possible. Thank you and God bless America.
