Professional?

A friend told me once that a professional is someone who gets paid to do what they love. I'm not sure I completely agree with him, but it gets you thinking. I've had jobs that I've loved that didn't pay; and I've had jobs that have paid that I didn't love. If you love doing something enough, the pay doesn't matter; and if you're getting paid enough to do something, you can forgo any enjoyment of it. Few people get love and money. If you're in it for just love and no money, you're a hippie. If you're in it for just money and no love, you're a whore. It's not an all or nothing thing though, and I think it's possible to be semi-pro.

I have been at sea for three-and-a-half months covering 22 cruises. Recently, I'm mostly in it for the money. The routine and repetition is dulling me. I feeling like I keep repeating myself, and I'm saying the same things over and over again... and over again. In two week's, I will move to a new band on a bigger ship, and I'm looking forward to the change.

Quote

Here's a line from a song called "Gravity's Gone" by the Drive by Truckers.

"If you were supposed to watch your mouth all the time, I doubt your eyes would be above them."
