Effortless Mastery

I'm reading a book called Effortless Mastery, by Kenny Werner. It's excellent and you should read it.

Will Rogers Quotes

These are quotes from Will Rogers, who died in a plane crash with Wylie Post in 1935. I especially like number 8.

1. Never slap a man who's chewing tobacco.

2. Never kick a cow chip on a hot day.

3. There are 2 theories to arguing with a woman...neither works.

4. Never miss a good chance to shut up.

5. Always drink upstream from the herd.

6. If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.

7. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it and put it back in your pocket.

8. There are three kinds of men: The ones that learn by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.

9. Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

10. If you're riding' ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it's still there.

11. Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier'n puttin' it back.

12. After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he started roaring. He kept it up until a hunter came along and shot him. The moral:
When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut.

You have to want it

You have to want it like a man whose head is on fire wants a bucket of water.

Colored Pencils

Dear Diary,
I hope nobody finds you, my sweet diary, and publishes you on the internet for everyone to see. Don't worry, diary. I'll keep you locked up, safe in my sock drawer.

I used to want to be a sock drawer, but I was never that good with colored pencils.

Anyhoo... How you been? It's been a while since my last chart topping, best-selling blog entry. I know you've been eagerly awaiting my next piece of nonsense. Well, here it is.

I just got back from band camp. I was in Lyons for the Rockygrass Academy and Festival. It was pretty much completely awesome. I met a lot of great people, and I learned a lot. I came out of it with a ton of stuff work on and more motivation to get going on it.

One cool thing about the Academy was that there was very little ego and self-promotion stuff going on. There were so many great players there that it wasn't difficult to be humble. Competition and ego was kept at bay, and the music was the important thing.

I heard a ton of great players, but here's a short list of some of the ones you should check out: Darol Anger, Scott Nygard, Rushad Eggleston, Tim Stafford, Rob Ickes, Chris Pandolfi, and Jeremy Garrett.
